Vocational Education and Training programme at VIII + level (6 months’ duration) and at X+2 level (2 years’ duration) are offered through different vocational Training Centres (VTCs)

I. Vocational Training Centres (VTCs)

A major component of implementation of Vocational Education & Training Programme in the State is imparting vocational skills through Vocational Training Centres (VTCs). There are 2714 functional VTCs, mostly located in Schools/Madrashas.

II. CSS-VSHSE Scheme in Schools

  • At present students are pursuing Vocational Education under CSS-VHSE scheme from Class-IX (Level-1) to Class-XII (Level-4) in 600 Schools across the Statein association with SSA(Samagra Shikhsha Abhiyan) under School Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal
  • Further, this Department also intends to include 209 High Madrashas for implementation of Vocational Education as per CSS-VHSE scheme guidelines under State Plan Budget of MAME Department from 2017-18.

III. Advance Vocational Training Centre(AVTC):

In view of imparting NSQF compliant short term skill training programme, 200 VTCs (Vocational Training Centers) are upgraded as Advanced Vocational Training Centers (AVTCs) by upgrading one Vocational Courses from (i) Amin Survey (ii) 2/3 Wheeler Mechanic (iii) Electric House Wiring and Moto Winding as per national standard. The training will be commenced from July,2018. Praneesebee training programme has already been operationalized as AVTC in 63 sub-division across the state by this Department in collaboration with ARD Department, Government of West Bengal.

IV. Special Skill Development Initiatives:

    The State Government’s endeavour to make provisions for appropriate competencies in the skilled manpower of the State in a co-ordinated & integrated manner with assured placement is being implemented. Following are the highlights of special Skill Development intervention:

  • In Service & Engineering sectors, one centre has been functionalized in Burdwan in association with FICCI & IL&FS Skill Development Corporation Ltd. where short term skilling intervention is being carried out in Hospitality, IT &ITeS and Garment Sector. Already 988 trainees have been trained out of which 464 trainees have been placed.

V. Skill Development Centre

Skill Development Centre at CTTI, Kalimpong, Darjeeling District has trained & placed 1838 Trainees in Hospitality Sector and Certified by respective Sector Skill Council. Out of them, 1305 trainees were placed in reputed Hospitality Sector Industries.
